FAQ's

Robbie Doyle and Jeremy Wurmfeld answer your FAQ's

"How many people does it take to sail the e33?"

The e33 can be single-handed quite easily. Crew weight is not required for stability and only the jib sheet needs to be tended when tacking. At the same time the cockpit is large enough for six to eight adults to enjoy a sail together comfortably. More FAQs

The Builder

Built by Waterline Systems, inc. in Portsmouth, RI
Today's Subject: Resin Systems

The e33 hull, deck and internal structure are laminated entirely with vinylester resin. This is a superior resin that was chosen by the designer to best utilize the properties of the very high quality bi-axial and unidirectional e-glass fabrics that are specified for the e33. Some other boats are built with vinylester resin used in only the outer skin of the hull because of its ability to combat water absorption. While this is better than no vinylester resin at all, it leaves the inner skins of the boat with a very brittle (albeit less expensive) polyester resin. Polyester resin does not allow the bi-axial and unidirectional e-glass fabrics to realize their full structural potential. Vinylester resin is somewhat more expensive, however, the e33 will not only have a better initial strength, but also will last longer because its resin system is less prone to fatigue.

The Sailmaker

Note from Robbie Doyle on the sails:

The self-tacking jib system on the e33 will work with the standard jib partially furled or with our optional self-tacking sail. The different jib sizes are as follows: Standard jib [158 sq. ft.], the self tacking jib [127 sq. ft.], and the standard jib furled to self tacking position [104 sq. ft.] All that is required to change from the full-size jib to the self- tacking arrangement, is to change the jib leads from the deck house top leads to the single self-tacking sheet that trims from the center of the cockpit just in front of the helmsperson. All three leads can also be left on together if desired. Even with the smaller jib, the boat's sail area/displacement compares favorably with other boats in its size range. Learn more
